Sunny and Kali

I had never interacted so closely with neural networks before, and therefore, of course, I acted ambitiously and naively, immediately planning a whole big movie. My story is about a little bright-eyed girl, Sunny, who, like any little girl, is very saddened by the injustice and cruelty of this world. But one day, the Hindu goddess Kali herself appears to Sunny and promises to help her... Kali is simply the queen of duality: she has a well-known reputation as the most bloodthirsty goddess in the Hindu pantheon, but upon closer examination, it turns out that she fights real evil and injustice, and in addition, liberates from illusions, delusions, and limitations of the mind...

How the story ends, I don't know yet, although we wrote the script with Chat GPT, and a huge number of generated scenes will now wait for a better solution that has yet to be found, spurring us on and forcing us to look for time, which protein organisms always lack... But, it seems that Kali is going to teach Sunny the most important thing: the greatest power lies in love and compassion.

My inspirational artists for this work were Frida Kahlo and Guillermo Del Toro. All videos were generated in the Deforum extension for auto1111 — version 3.0. Since I still want to make an understandable movie, I have not yet decided whether I will take full advantage of neural networks, which, just like the Hindu gods, emphasize the multiple and illusory nature of reality.

I collected the videos that were not included and rejected during the generation process into a separate clip.

Я никогда до этого так близко не взаимодействовала с нейросетями, и потому, конечно, поступила амбициозно и наивно, сразу задумав целое большое кино. Моя история о маленькой ясноглазой девочке Санни, которую, как всякую маленькую девочку, очень печалит несправедливость и жестокость этого мира. Но однажды Санни является сама индуистская богиня Кали и обещает ей помочь… Кали просто королева дуальности: у неё известная репутация самой кровожадной богини в индуистском пантеоне, но при ближайшем рассмотрении оказывается, что она борется с настоящим злом и несправедливостью, а кроме того, освобождает от иллюзий, заблуждений и ограниченности ума…

Чем закончилась история, я пока не знаю, хотя сценарий мы написали с Chat GPT, а огромное количество сгенерированных сцен теперь будет ждать лучшего решения, которое ещё только предстоит найти, подстегивая и заставляя выискивать время, которого белковым организмам всегда не хватает... Но, похоже, Кали собирается научить Санни самому главному: самая большая сила заключается в любви и сострадании.

Моими художниками-вдохновителями в этой работе стали Фрида Кало и Гильермо Дель Торо. Все видео сгенерировано в Deforum extension for auto1111 — версия 3.0. Поскольку я хочу всё же сделать понятное кино, я пока не решила, буду ли я пользоваться всеми преимуществами нейросетей, которые так же, как индуистские боги, подчеркивают множественную и иллюзорную природу реальности.

Невошедшие и отбракованные в процессе генераций видео я собрала в отдельный клип.

Helga

"Helga" is a feature film project that I'm actually working on. The diploma of this course is an attempt to make a first approach to visualize the atmosphere of the film.

The story is based on a real part of the biography of the American artist Andrew Wyeth, who was known for his ultra-realism. One day, in a moment of depression, he met a woman on the street, whom he begged to become his model. Helga Testorf, a mother of four children, agreed. They had a long relationship that Andrew's wife did not know about. When they almost went bankrupt, Andrew showed his wife the attic, which contained 250 portraits of Helga. These portraits made him famous. Helga died in obscurity, but her image remains forever.

AI Duality for me is a combination of two worlds — the real world — with all the blows of the real world — and the high world — where there is always room for great love and the energy of co-creation. Helga was an ordinary mother, but the rest of the time, she was the Muse of the artist — and it is this mark that has remained in the history of American painting.

История основана на реальной части биографии американского художника Эндрю Уайета, который был известен своим ультрареализмом. Однажды в момент депрессии он встретил женщину на улице, которую стал умолять стать его натурщицей. Хельга Тесторф, мать четверых детей, согласилась. Их связывали долгие годы отношений, о которых не знала жена Эндрю. Когда они чуть было не разорились, Эндрю показал жене чердак, на котором хранились 250 портретов Хельги. Эти портреты сделали его знаменитым. Хельга умерла в безвестности, но ее образ остался навсегда.

AI-Duality для меня — сочетание двух миров: реального — со всеми ударами реального мира — и высокого — где всегда есть место огромной любви и энергии сотворчества. Хельга была обычной матерью, но все остальное время была Музой художника — и именно этот след остался в истории американской живописи.

Strah

For the basis of my work, I took the song "Strah" by Sveta Ben. I wanted to convey the very sensation of fear, so inherent to humans and unfamiliar to machines. In this difference lies the very duality. The fear of humans towards the machine. Towards the machine of evil in human hands. And the absence of fear in the machine.

За основу своей работы я взяла песню Светы Бень «Страх». Мне хотелось передать само ощущение страха, так свойственное человеку и незнакомое машине. В этой разнице таится та самая дуальность. Страх человека перед машиной. Перед машиной зла в руках человека. И отсутствие страха у машины.

I grew up in Komi, far in the north, and only saw jungles on a popular children’s TV show. Now, trying to grow jungles at home, I think about how joyfully a monstera would break free from me. But how do we escape from concrete jungles to real ones? We definitely know the time when this beckoning opportunity opens up!

Between

The concept of the video was to evenly divide the work between a human (me) and AI, with the AI being strictly local, running on my personal work computer, despite the many limitations this entailed.

The first step was to generate a script, for which I utilized LM Studio with the Yi-34B language model, focusing on the theme of "the dualism of soul and body." The second step involved reworking the script into prompts for Stable Diffusion and Fooocus, accomplished by another language model — Dolphin-2.6-Mistral-7B. Following this, there was a significant amount of trial and error, prompt adjustments, etc.

Additionally, I aimed for the video to be in the standard resolution of 1920x1080, which complicated the task and significantly extended the generation time for each frame.

The final stage involved editing the video and adding sound, tasks that AI did not assist with. Interestingly, the "Bosch-like" nature of the first scene emerged unintentionally, but I found it highly appealing. There wasn't even a hint of skeletons in the prompt.

Идея ролика состояла в том, чтобы поровну разделить работу человека (меня) и AI. Причём AI должен был быть исключительно локальным, запущенным на моём рабочем компьютере, хотя это и накладывало много ограничений.

Первым этапом была генерация сценария, для этого я использовал LM Studio с языковой моделью Yi-34B, тема: «дуализма души и тела». Второй этап — переработка сценария в промпты для Stable Diffusion и Fooocus, с этим справилась еще одна языковая модель — Dolphin-2.6-Mistral-7B. А далее, огромное количество проб и ошибок, исправлений промптов и т. д.

А ещё очень хотелось получить видео в стандартном разрешении 1920х1080, что тоже усложнило задачу и значительно увеличивало время генерации каждого кадра.

Финальный этап: сборка ролика и звук, с этим AI никак не помогал. «Босховость» первой сцены, кстати, получилась случайно, но очень мне понравилась. В промпте даже намека на скелеты не было.

My work is about the microcosm and macrocosm, about the similarities between us and our machines, and the chasm that divides us. About how, from a distance, one can confuse a nighttime city, the activity of brain neurons, and the electrical impulses of machines. About how not only technology in solid shells and flowing digits has become a separate form of life but also our cities. Concrete-asphalt organisms with their own circadian rhythms, circulation systems, and character. When a missile hits a home, the city feels its pain... Someday machines will have their own DNA, culture, and true, not artificial, intelligence. And then we will shake each other's hands. If we are still needed by then.

Моя работа — о микро- и макрокосме, о сходстве нас и наших машин и о пропасти, которая нас разделяет. О том, что издалека можно перепутать ночной город, активность нейронов мозга и электрические импульсы машин. О том, что не только технологии в твердых оболочках и текучих цифрах стали отдельной формой жизни, но и наши города. Бетонно-асфальтные организмы со своими циркадными ритмами, системами циркуляции и характером. Когда в дом прилетает ракета, город чувствует его боль… Когда-нибудь у машин появится своё ДНК, культура и настоящий, а не искусственный интеллект. И тогда мы пожмём друг другу руки. Если ещё будем им нужны.

Vanity of the world

The plot of my video narrates the constant hustle and bustle in the modern world, the perpetual busyness at work. In such a life rhythm, there's practically no room for a moment's rest, for self-discovery, and appreciating the beauty around us. It's also noticeable that, despite being surrounded by people everywhere and being many, we still feel lonely and misunderstood. But in any case, there will always be a place where you are understood and supported. And such a place is home.

Сюжет моего ролика повествует о постоянной суете в современном мире, постоянной занятости в работе. И в таком ритме жизни практически нет места для минутного отдыха, познания себя и всего прекрасного вокруг. Также можно заметить, что несмотря на то, что мы везде в кругу людей и нас много, мы всё равно бываем одиноки и чувствуем себя непонятыми. Но в любом случае всегда будет место, где тебя поймут и поддержат. И такое место — дом.
